About Us

Serving veterans in Iowa and Illinois for improved health solutions.

The Iowa City VA Medical Research Foundation's (ICVARF) mission is to mobilize resources to improve the health and well-being of the Veteran community.

The issues our nation's heroes face are unique and complex. Many times their health problems are related to military service. It is crucial to discover knowledge through a scientific inquiry about these medical conditions to ensure veterans receive the best health care – the care they deserve in return for their selfless service.

What We Do

As a VA-affiliated, independent state-chartered research and education nonprofit corporation, we manage unique public/private partnerships that allow VA and veterans to benefit from private and non-VA public funding for research conducted within Research & Development at the Iowa City VA health Care System (ICVAHCS).  ICVARF seeks funding through many sources:

  • Private grants
  • Industry-sponsored collaborative research
  • Government grants
  • Nonprofit agencies
  • Public donations
  • Planned giving

Efforts are focused to achieve our vision: To discover knowledge and create innovations that help advance the health and care of our nation's heroes, Veterans.
